Ingredients

For chocolate cake

1+2/4 cups whole wheat flour, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 cup plain curd, 3/4 cup coconut sugar, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 tsp vanilla essence, 1/3 cup warm milk, 1 tbsp coffee powder

For chocolate sauce

1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Steps to follow

  1. Grease a 9-inch cake tin with butter or line with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  2. Take a bowl and whisk in all the dry ingredients- flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix well and put it aside.
  3. Mix all the wet ingredients- yogurt, coconut sugar, buttermilk, and vanilla in a separate mixing bowl.
  4. Mix the coffee powder and milk in a cup and pour the mixture into the wet ingredients. Coffee enhances the chocolate flavor and adds to the richness of the cake. 
  5. Now, gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix well.
  6. Add the prepared batter into the cake tin you have previously greased and pat it to settle any air bubbles. 
  7. Bake the prepared cake for 30-35 minutes.
  8. Remove the prepared cake from the tin and allow it to rest before you mix it with chocolate sauce.
  9. Meanwhile, make your chocolate sauce by mixing the honey and cocoa powder. 
  10. Once the cake is completely rested, pour the sauce on top and spread it with a knife or spatula. Don’t pour the sauce on a hot or warm cake. 
  11. Your chocolate cake is ready!
